Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Dushanbe-west Shirkent-Luchob, east Shirkent-Luchob.

Synonym: Sarykhasar suite, сарыхасорская свита, Karakuz horizon, каракузскому горизонту

Lithology and Thickness

It consists of massive gray and pink sandstones with layers in the lower part of variegated clays. Gypsum is occasionally found. The thickness of the suite is 45 – 120 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

They conformably or with slight erosion overlie the deposits of Berriasian, Middle Aptian or Upper Hauterivian - Middle Aptian.

Upper contact

They are conformably overlain by the deposits of the Cenomanian and Turonian.

Regional extent

In districts Turkestan, Zarafshan-Gissar, South Gissar, Karategin this horizon includes the entire suite.

At its base, rare bivalves and ostracods are found.
